The course was opened in 1896; it is set in mature parkland on the edge of the Galloway Forest Park with views of lofty Cairnsmore and Wigtown Bay.
Basically on two levels with a short climb to the 3rd tee, the first of five very different par 3s which are a feature and all played in different directions.
Its own “Amen Corner” is three holes set around a picturesque lochan with a burn flowing through. Fine mature trees and gorse (whins) frame several holes to concentrate the mind.
This course is a superb 18-hole parkland course with spectacular views from every hole. Measuring 5840 yards (par 69), each hole is unique with excellent greens and subtle borrows.
Water comes into play on two of the holes and patches of wild gorse which will punish wild shots.Renowned for its hospitality, visitors are most welcome all year round as Newton Stewart is known as the friendly place to play golf.
