Moffat

5,270 yards • par 67

The Moffat Golf Club was founded in 1884. In 1904, Ben Sayers of North Berwick was invited to design the present 18-hole course.

Located high on Coats Hill overlooking the town it is some 670 feet above sea level and commands splendid views in all directions. It was ideal land on which to build a golf course and Ben Sayers successfully incorporated all the natural undulations and hazards into his layout.

Deceptive approach shots combined with subtle greens ensure that scoring is never easy. Many golfers would agree that he succeeded in creating one of the most attractive, varied and interesting inland courses in the country.

When playing golf at Moffat it is easy to leave behind the concerns of modern life. Indeed on many of the holes there is nothing to be seen except the natural beauty of sky and hills.

The course is often referred to as “the jewel in the South”. A round of golf at Moffat is always both challenging and inspiring. The excellent condition of this fine traditional Scottish moorland course and the welcoming clubhouse reinforce the notion that Moffat should be near the top of any golfer’s list of courses to play.

Its location makes it an ideal venue for a day or weekend trip. Alternatively, it is an ideal first course to play for golfers planning a pilgrimage to Scotland, the Home of Golf.
