6,289 yards • par 71
The Portland Course was opened in June 1895 although it was only in 1924 that the name was changed from the Relief Course.
In more recent times, the qualifying rounds for the European Open have been played over the Portland Course.
As good a course as you will find in this area but obviously overshadowed by its Royal sister.
Although a links course, the Portland is a little more sheltered than the Old Course and, of course, shorter.
The holes meander through terrain filled with gorse and broom and have a generous helping of Par 3’s, five in all. This is tempered however, with four Par 5’s, all of which are on the back nine.
