Strathaven

6,250 yards • par 71

Strathaven Golf Club was first established in its current location in 1907. Willie Fernie, Troon the 1883 Open Champion, designed the original 9 holes. The Course was extended to 18 holes in 1965. Arguably one of the finest parkland courses in the West of Scotland, Strathaven has played host to a number of prestigious competitions over the years.

Whatever the time of year, Strathaven offers a rewarding challenge to golfers of all standards. With its tree lined fairways and well protected greens, the Course demands a high degree of judgement and skill to achieve par.

When par golf is not the order of the day, the tranquil surroundings and magnificent views over the nearby town and surrounding Kype Hills will still make the visit worthwhile. And at the end of the round, where better to relax than in the Club’s welcoming Restaurant and Bar overlooking the 18th green.

Visiting players and parties are encouraged to play and visitors can always be assured of a warm welcome from staff and members.

The excellent first hole doglegs to the left. The drive appears daunting from the tee with a narrow gap between hardwood trees on the right and left of the fairway. Once the trees have been negotiated, the fairway swings left to the green with bunkers positioned left and right.

One of the best holes on the course is a truly great finishing hole. A dogleg left, the safe drive is down the right avoiding the spinney on the left. Two large fairway bunkers on the right will capture a straying drive. The second shot is played to the largest green on the course, with trees all the way down the left. Two large bunkers guard the front left and right of the green.
