Ranfurly Castle is a challenging heathland and moorland course set in the hills above Bridge of Weir, where it enjoys magnificent views over the Renfrewshire countryside to Ben Lomond and the Scottish mountains. The land is naturally well drained and the course is very seldom closed for play.

They are always happy to share their excellent course and facilities, and welcome visitors from all round the world. Easy accessibility, only 15 minutes from Glasgow airport and the M8, coupled with extensive tee availability and attractive green fees for a high calibre course make it the ideal venue for a visit or outing.

The fine old traditional clubhouse is full of character and has listed status, but also has all the modern facilities needed to meet the golfers’ off course requirements. There are two lounges serving a good range of drinks and freshly prepared snacks, and a dining room for more formal meals. In addition to the championship course, there is a 9 hole par 3 course and 2 practice grounds.

It has a pleasant opening short par 4 with a clump of trees to the left and out of bounds to the right. Although the fairway is wide, many drives are lured by these hazards. The second shot, with a short iron, is to a sharply sloping green which is guarded by three bunkers and where three putts are not uncommon!

A delightful finishing hole – downhill all the way so it plays shorter than it’s measure. Although the fairway seems wide from the tee, many drives are trapped in deep rough and trees which extend down the entire right side. Perhaps the best line is to aim for the right edge of the clubhouse which stands behind the green. A medium / short iron should be adequate, bearing in mind that the green has a steep slope at the rear which leads to the lower car park.
